Therapy for Parents

In Brentwood, TN and online across TN & FL

“I keep getting triggered by my kids.”

“I love my kids, but sometimes I hate being a mom.”

“I’m so afraid I’m going to ruin my kids.”

Maybe you are repeating patterns & saying things to your children that you swore you would never say. You may find yourself triggered by your kids & spout off hurtful and shaming words — only to then feel that immense shame and guilt for reacting that way, again. You’re yelling, screaming, shutting down, criticizing or avoiding way more than you want to.

You may be trying to cope by drinking one too many glasses of wine, or doom-scrolling on your phone. Perhaps you’re feeling tapped out & like you can’t handle one more time someone says, “Mom…” or “Dad...”

Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact on every facet of life:

  • Dread to start your day

  • Lack of presence with your kids

  • Constantly feeling on edge or irritated

  • Yelling more than you want

  • Feeling like no amount of alone time is enough

  • Numbing out by drinking, scrolling or all together avoiding

  • Lack of enjoyment of life in general

Therapy for Parents Can Help!

  • Adjustment to parenthood is one of the most vulnerable times in your life. While Instagram paints a one-sided image, you’re reality is full of anxiety, difficulty in your relationship and uncertainty about if you can handle all of the changes ahead.

You’ve heard about the mental load of motherhood & are determined that will not be your story.

I’ll be your guide through this exciting, yet unfamiliar territory. You’ll gain tools to help with anxiety, get in touch with your own needs, and strengthen your communication skills. We’ll navigate changing expectations, identity and career issues.

Let’s proactively work to prevent issues before they take root.

  • The demands are never ending & you are questioning why you even had children. The mental load of motherhood is REAL & you are on the edge of your breaking point.

Perhaps the partner you fell in love with is now a major source of irritation and resentment.

While this is all normal, and this is an extremely demanding stage of life, that information alone isn’t helpful.

Now is the time to invest in your own mental well-being. Let’s get to the root of the overwhelm & irritation.

It’s time to reconnect with your authentic self, to understand your needs and wants, set appropriate internal and external boundaries & regain a sense of peace & confidence, guilt-free.

  • You and your partner feel disconnected with the daily grind of parenthood.

You knew life would change, but you didn’t expect the resentment and disagreements to be the new normal.

Perhaps you had a childhood that is definitely not worth repeating and you fear these same patterns accidentally showing up in your parenting style.

We will intentionally look at your own childhoods and how you were parented, as well as clarify your values as parents today.

It’s time to invest in your own relationship. An intensive can help you connect with your partner.

Intensives for parents are offered from pregnancy through the child’s first two years of life.

frequently asked questions

  • We’ll get to know your unique challenges with parenthood. We will explore your own childhood and expectations you may have unconsciously picked up along the way. Slowly, we will make sense of why you are triggered in certain ways and make sense of how your nervous system was programed at a young age. With greater understanding will come more compassion for yourself and your humanity.

  • This totally depends on what you need! If you have your own trauma from childhood that you want to work through, then it could take about a year. If you just want to gain some new skills for dealing with postpartum anxiety, it may only take a few sessions. Ultimately, you are in control of how long you come to therapy and I regularly make it a habit to check in with clients to ensure they are getting what they need from our time together.

  • I’m so glad you asked! Yes!! Parents are the most busy humans on the planet. Therapy intensives are an extremely effective way for you to do the work you want, without having to commit to an on-going weekly therapy session. You will see more progress and feel relief much faster than typical 50 minute sessions. If you’re interested, please bring this up on our consultation call.
